Although conservatories are commonplace across the UK, they all present the same overheating issues. Perhaps the biggest problem is the very fact that they become far too hot in the summer (up to 50 C or 122 F), or it becomes too cold on winter evenings! Another problem that conservatory owners face concerns the space (or lack of it) available for an air conditioning unit.
There are a number of ways of resolving this problem. The most effective cooling measure available is, of course, the installation of an air conditioning unit. While ceiling fans are seemingly the cheapest option, it must be remembered that fans will not bring down the temperature in your conservatory in the least. They merely re-circulate the ambient air in the room.
Other simple alternatives include the installation of blinds which will reduce the heat entering the conservatory. They will not completely cool down the room, although they will make a significant difference to the temperature.
In addition to this, solar coatings on the conservatory glass can be used to reduce the temperature. These work by allowing in light rays but reflecting up to 80% of the heat, thus effectively preventing solar energy from entering the conservatory. These do reduce the heat build-up but will not prevent the room from heating up completely.
