How to make your air conditioning unit work more efficiently

Advice to help make your air con unit work better for you helping you save money, energy and the planet, with so many good reasons why wouldn't you want to!

Here are some handy tips to ensure that you use your air conditioning unit more efficiently to save energy and cut down on your energy bills.

Leave the thermostat alone: Many people tend to leave the air conditioning system at or around 78 degrees F. If you make this a common practice in your house, ensure that no one lowers the air conditioner temperature below the set level to cool the room faster.

An air conditioning unit will cool down the room at the same rate irrespective of the setting. Remember, adjusting the temperature say, to 70 degrees will not really help to cool the room any faster and will only add to the electricity consumption.

Keep the curtains closed: Natural light seeping into the room may help you to cut down on your lighting needs. However, when no one in the room is doing tasks that require light such as reading, it is advisable to keep the curtains closed during the day.

Keeping the sun from entering your house will help reduce the amount of effort an air conditioning system needs to put in to keep the surroundings cool. Open the curtains or blinds in the evening to allow heat to pass out of your house.
