Wall-mounted air conditioners are the most frequently used air conditioning units in server rooms. They are used for many reasons. First, you can direct the cold air directly at the server, keeping it as cool as possible. Specific wall-mounted air conditioning models are also purpose-built to deal with the intense, constant cooling that a server room requires.
We always avoid cheap models designed for home or office use. They offer little longevity and usually go 'kaput' when you need them most!
In organisations where the consequences of a failed server, if only for an hour or two, can be deemed catastrophic (for example, a financial trading floor), we strongly advise installing an extra air conditioning unit as an emergency backup. Better be safe than sorry! If you want to be extra safe, ask our surveyors when they visit you.
Single-split air conditioners are the ideal option for server rooms as it is vital that the unit is independent from any other air conditioners that you may have in your office. Therefore, multi-split systems and VRF systems are not suitable. Single-split air conditioners have one internal cooling unit and one external condenser box.
